Sorry for the late reply…
See here for fixes to some I-war 1 bugs, including the crashing while crossing a LaGrange point bug: https://i-war2.com/documents/help/faq/faq-technical/faq-technical-iwar1

ChesskingParticipantUgh. After the website went down last time, I backed up all the models on my hard drive. However, I have since suffered a head crash and lost all my data, and I didn’t download the models again.
I can’t believe this is happening again.

Both of the I-War games still work on Windows 8.1. If you are referring to the graphics standards, I agree; I-War 2 is a bit outdated. Ironduke’s remake will fix that though.
Regarding to Jefferson Clay: In my mind’s version of I-War 3, Clay’s AI was copied, and he is now a training instructor, commander advisor, or even the commander of many ships in the new Navy. Of course, if you are deviating from I-war 2’s original story to make a look-a-like, it is fine if you let him go.
Regarding the fictional star systems: I think a few of the stars are actual stars (such as “Betelgeuse”) but other than that, i believe they are fictitious.
One thing I would like to have is ships with front and rear weapons. I think I-War 2 messed up by not having any more ships with rear cannons… that is one of the things that made the game unique.
When you get started on this project, be sure to let us know… I would be glad to help if I can. (The main limitation for me is time right now).
@Schmatzler: glad to see you here too. Merry Christmas!
I don’t know what IronDuke is up to lately… he was last active on Discord almost a month ago. He has been going through some major life changes that he claims will also allow him to spend more time on the remake. I hope everything is okay.

26. December 2018 at 2:50 in reply to: Anyone Thinking about making a New Game from this series ? #18927ChesskingParticipantHello Dark, I really like the ideas you have mentioned. Many of them line up with my ideas for an I-War 3. I have a couple of comments/suggestions.
First, Atari owns the copyrights to the game… I believe several people have attempted to contact them regarding I-War 2, and never got a response. However, both I-War 1 and I-War 2 have appeared on Steam in the last few years, indicating that Atari is not totally ignoring the game. This makes creating another sequel a precarious task, and I hate it as much as you or anyone else does. IronDuke has been working on an I-War 2 “remake” using Unity that would require the original game to run, with the hope that Atari wouldn’t copy-write strike it (it would be similar to a mod). He also hopes to add more stuff to the game when the re-make is completed. I don’t know how all of this will affect you, but it is good to keep in mind.
Second, I and others would agree that it would take away from the game if it was open-world/multiplayer only. Both of the original games are enjoyed because of their immersive campaigns. If I were making a new game from the series, I would create a new campaign where the character(s) find some alien (Nair’Nama) technology and use it to fight the Chaos Aliens. I think an open world (Torn Stars) mode would be good also.
Regarding whether every ship would use the ComSec: I don’t think that would be beneficial, as it would change the design of many existing ships. Also, in the game universe, there are many manufacturers who build ships their own way. So while a ComSec compatible ship would be a plus, it wouldn’t be on every ship. Also, in the Original I-War cinematics, you see that the Puffin-class tug also has a detachable command section, but with a different design. In addition, it wouldn’t be practical for fighters, transports, and capital ships to have command sections. So there would have to be different piloting/docking/ejecting systems for different ships.
I do like the ideas of being able to walk around ships, as well as being able to land on planets and engage in first-person combat. I think these elements would add a lot of immersion to the game, as well as appeal to a larger number of players. I, personally, would like to see a Real-Time Strategy aspect of the game, where you can acquire a fleet and control them from the comfort of your Nova class cruiser.
I mentioned IronDuke’s project above… I also have a project. It is a 2-D remake of the game using my skills with Javascript. I have lost most of the code for the game twice now… all the while accumulating more projects that I want to complete as well. Anyways, I think if the I-War community is going to accomplish a large-scale project, it would be better for all of us to work together, rather than working on separate projects.

November 2018 at 6:32 in reply to: Anyone Thinking about making a New Game from this series ? #19795ChesskingParticipantI don’t know much about space sim MMO’s, so I don’t have much for suggestions. Since I-war is a very single-player based game, it is hard to imagine it as an MMO… so my first suggestion would be having missions that the players can work together to accomplish. One example of a game that uses this system is Command and Conquer: Tiberium Alliances. The game has multiple servers, and when the game objectives are accomplished, either the server resets, or a new server is created (I don’t know which).
Another example is I-war 2’s own “EOC Online”. This game is not first person, but has some qualities that could be used… In EOC Online, the player starts out with a low-level ship and works for one of six factions. The player can choose either an assault role (damages enemy ships) or a support role (heals allied ships). The player can earn experience and eventually get better ships. The player can also become a leader of other players from the same faction, and coordinate attacks against other factions. A faction can be eliminated by destroying it’s space station. The server resets when only one faction remains in the game.

21. November 2018 at 9:42 in reply to: Anyone Thinking about making a New Game from this series ? #19791ChesskingParticipantMy wish for I-War 2 is that it would be more fully fleshed out. As IronDuke and others have discovered, some of the ship systems don’t actually do anything, such as active sensors. I would like a version of I-war where this is fixed, along with things like subsystem damage and power supply.
In addition, I like that you can fly different ships in I-war 2… but you are limited to just 5 ships (Plus a few others in multiplayer). It would be nice to be able to buy whatever ship you want… In fact, it would be nice if you could buy anything. The only currency in vanilla appears to be gained from scrapping cargo… and is only useful for manufacturing the few items you have blueprints for. This forces you to use piracy as your main source for resources. There are mods that allow you to fly other ships… as well as buy, sell, and trade cargo, ships, etc. A better game would have this built-in.
I would also like the ability to use capital ships and to form your own fleet. According to the encyclopedia, Lucretia’s base could hold about 30 ships. Why couldn’t a famous pirate whose skill compares to Jefferson Clay buy/steal some ships, hire some fighters, and use the base?
Anyways, these are just a few of the things that I think of when thinking about a new I-war based game.
