Sounds good! Although I loved the vanilla LDS sound effect, it can grate on ones ears after hundreds and hundreds of flights. A softening of the sound is a welcome change.

I didn’t notice, but did your mod eliminate sounds for ‘external’ events, and limit things to the player ship only? I don’t know whether that would be possible, without creating an entire set of effects/items for the player that do not cross-over with NPC effects/items.

Actually, Unstable Space has the ‘machinery’ to implement that right now. It would just take a bit of coding for an interface, then some actual photoshop work to create ‘alternate paint jobs’ for all, or a subset of, pilotable ships.
The coding would be a snap. The photoshopping and ini file setup would take some time.
I kind-of did this for cargo pods. At least, they are not customizable, but their ‘colours’ give the player a clue as to the value of the contents. A little detail I wonder whether anyone ever noticed.

    Hi Chessking,

Feel free to upload those to http://www.torn-stars.com as well. There is a section in the Downloads for EoC mods. I believe members can upload.

    Hi jaggardos,

If you are replacing sound effects, you need to put them into a folder that contains matching filepaths/folders names as the original resources. Then give this folder a name, and put it into the mods directory in your i-war2 install. Lastly you need an .ini file and .html file in that folder, to activate your mod, and give it an info screen in game.

Refer to an existing mod for guidance as well. I will attach the most basic of mods, the crosshair mod, which lays this all out for you.

You can also zip up your folder as well, and just drop that into the mods directory, like the crosshair mod I have attached.

I actually liked Automata a lot. It did not over do itself, which is likely what most ‘AI’ stories are going to do in the years to come.

Battlestar Galactica was great, until the last episode, which I tried to immediately erase from my mind as it ruined the whole series. Never Watch It.

    Europa Report was good. Moon.

As far as space-opera goes, I can’t think of any. Star Wars has left no room for other visions. Except the new Star Trek. Which is great. And Guardians of the Galaxy. Which is a space-opera I suppose.

I have that problem on windows 7. However, on the same computer, running OSX, and with I-War2 in a cider wrapper, I can go to 2560×1600 or any resolution lower than that.
I have had about 5 or 6 video card upgrades since the game first came out. For the most part, each, newer card showed increasing issues, artifacts, and especially, inability to go to high-res settings.

Aside from the ‘Newtonian’ flight model, without which it would not be I-war, I’d like to see attention to the ‘backworld’

Not the back story, but rather, the technology and reasoning behind all the technology that makes the world of the game operate.

I’ve never played a game with ships as believable as I-war. I think this is because so much effort was spent on rationalizing the technology behind the ship. Those technology then gave concrete forms and rules for the formation of the ship(s) itself. The ships were (mostly in I-war) were built up from this principal.

Many space related games have fleets of ships that just ‘look cool’, and don’t really have any thinking put into them beyond that (okay, they might have more, but my point stands).

Without this ‘backworld’, I don’t think it would really be I-war 3

PS – does anyone own the orginal I-war manual? It is insane. From what I remember.

I play Crusader Kings 2 a lot. Sometime Moebius, the Orb of Celestial Harmony. Other than that, I dabble in Fallout New Vegas, and Stalker, but mainly modding them. To be truthful I don’t really play any games, just muck about modding them. That’s how I play them.
Haven’t really seen a lot of games in recent years that interested me much. Particularly in the space sim genre. Everything seems to have gone a different direction than I-war did. It’s all part of the growth in gaming in general. Big titles have to market to the masses now, which dictates the limits of their potential.
