Interesting. It’s not my kind of game, but I see these top-down space games regularly on Space Game Junkie, so there is definitely interest and a market for this.

7upManParticipantI know that LT’s assets are procedural, but the game will be highly moddable, Josh expects there will be a thriving community around it. I fully expect someone to hack in a way to import models from outside. Hell, Josh himself might do the deed. Anyway, nobody has heard from him for almost a month now, and while he’s been absent for far longer before, I wouldn’t make plans until LT finally ships, even as a Beta.

7upManParticipantSpeaking of Josh and LT, depending on whether importing modeling will be possible and how this will be done, it might be a good idea to implement the I-War models for a mod in LT first. After all, LT is about the perfect description of the I-War universe and the Badlands. Sure, some things would still need to be done, story-wise, but since LT is supposed to be highly moddable, it should not be too difficult – or at least less difficult than creating your very own space game engine from scratch. But that’s just my two cents.

@7upMan: Sprechen Sie Deutsch?–IronDuke
IronDuke, Du kannst mich gern Duzen (also Du zu mir sagen). Sie ist doch sehr förmlich. 😉
Yes, I am a German, just like Schmatzler. I think back in the day, the German I-War community was quite big, because when I talk to my peers (like the folks in my MWO clan) about games of the past, I-War is quite fondly remembered.

7upManParticipantI have yet to discover blueprints for the more valuable missiles. Currently, I can only produce the simplest Seeker missiles.

7upManParticipantHm, interesting. I think IW2 would have been even better if that space trucking would have been part of the game. That way, you could earn your living honestly and at the same time pursue your vendetta against Maas. I’m with Chessking in that it irks me that you NEED to be a pirate no matter what your standing is.
It’s something like TES3: Morrowind, where you could own entire castles and have the highest standing of a faction, just to be greeted like a normal peasant.

I definitely recommend having them fly detached. Due to their tiny size and good maneuverability, their survivability can be surprisingly high.
This is not really what I experienced. I stopped taking the turret fighters with me because they always got killed. Also, they wasted missiles like crazy, and I mean really firedsomething like a dozen missiles within seconds. With me having to replace the fighters, missiles and ammunition, in the end, things got so expensive that it made no sense to me to take them anymore.
