I think most of the problem was the production design. There’s a reason that most of the best CG is found in movies with a lot of darkness and fast cuts. The technology wasn’t quite ready for long, lingering closeup shots on CG characters in full sunlight. And the design of the characters themselves was so goofy.

What exactly do you mean? In the Wikipedia, I only find this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duel_of_the_Fates. Do you really mean the music theme?

Yep, I mean the music. The score always been the best part of Star Wars, but Williams knocked it out of the park with that piece.

Check your humor detector. 😉 Seriously, though, those of us who love Star Wars as adults do so almost without fail because we remember ANH, ESB and RotJ in their original, unadulterated (sans CGI) form. The so-called “Special Edition” mostly weakened the films, and the further additions in the Blu-Ray versions watered them down further. Then came the prequel trilogy, and we just heaved a big sigh of disappointment.

That’s not to say that there aren’t things to like about the Special Editions and the prequel trilogy. “Duel of the Fates” alone does an awful lot to redeem them. But on the whole, I find that treating them as Lucas’ fan films for his own universe makes me feel better about them.

The Ori were poorly executed, in my opinion.

I absolutely loved the Ori. Fanatic conquerors driven by their religion and hatred for everything that stood against it – that is material for badass villains.
I agree, which is why I was disappointed in the hokey-cheesy way they were done. I do agree with you about Apophis, though. He definitely stuck around way too long. Baal was the best villain in Stargate, and there was regrettably too little of him.
I have seen all the six movies,

I’m not alone! Someone finally understands me! :woohoo:
For me, Jar Jar Binks really killed it. Some utterly bad CGI thing CAN ruin a whole movie.
See, there’s your problem. There are only three Star Wars movies. Those other three are just fan films.

Oh, and I don’t know how someone could not like Tron: Legacy. It’s the most epic music video I’ve ever seen. They really shortchanged Boxleitner, though, considering his character’s name was the title.

Does anybody here know “Seven Days”? It just came into my mind. It’s a TV show about time travel, but it’s comedic and messes with all the Science Fiction shows that were out at that time.

Never heard of that one. I’ll look for it.

! How did I forget Stargate!? SG-1 was a big reason I got into my current line of work, which is visual effects for television.

I do think they should have wrapped it up a little earlier than they did. The Ori were poorly executed, in my opinion.

B5, BSG, and Firefly of course. ST and SW also go without saying.

I thought Caprica was an interesting idea, and it was just starting to get to the cool sci-fi stuff when it was canned. No pun intended. They should have led with the good stuff instead of trying to build it up slowly.

If you enjoy time travel stories, check out Continuum. The fourth season should be starting soon. The three existing seasons are available on Netflix. In brief, 70 years from now, a group of terrorists manage to escape their own execution by traveling into the past (today). A cop equipped with high-tech gear accidentally follows them back and is trying to prevent them from changing the future to be more to their liking.

I share exactly the same sentiments about Elite. I had cancelled my donation to Elite on Kickstarter back in the day because of how utterly bad and laze the campaign had started. To this day, I don’t regret it. E:D is NOT the game I was looking for.
I had the opposite response. When I play EoC, I usually play the campaign right up to the point where I have access to the rest of the Badlands, and then I stop and just fly around doing my own thing. If I get bored I’ll advance it to the point where all the Maas ships turn red and then stop again.

Elite’s definitely got a way to go before it’s a game, but it’s shaping up to be just what I’m after. Of course, I’m the kind of person who will play the Traveller pen-and-paper RPG (http://www.farfuture.net) solo. So sandboxes are right up my alley.

As I recall, it took a little fiddling, but I did get it to run in Vista. I run it in compatibility mode for XP Service Pack 2.

If you don’t know how to do that, once it’s installed, right-click on the executable or the icon you use to launch it and choose “Properties.” There should be a tab in the properties window called “Compatibility.”

I haven’t tried it in any OS more recent than Vista.

I’ve got the X-55. I added up the controls a couple of days ago, and I think it came out to upward of 90 button and switch functions and 27 analog axes. And a little thumb-stick to replace the mouse. It’s got more controls than a TARDIS.

I played EoC with a Logitech Extreme 3d stick, and it was just fine until it broke. Considering how much time I put into the game, I figured it was worthwhile to spend a lot on my upgrade. Even if ED, Star Citizen and No Man’s Sky all turn out to be busts, I can still come back to I-War.

I think the thing I am missing most right now from EoC is the autopilot. I had to fly 74 light hours to get to a station yesterday, and I was so bored.
