I agree that the characters in Inca II act and sound a little funny. Also, the fact that you play as an Incan (Indian, as columbus dubbed them), flying spaceships, is amusing. One of the things that I noticed when I first played was the graphics. At the time, I didn’t know DOS was capable of textures like that. Probably one reason that I have played the game is because I have it on disk. It was my dad’s when he was young, but he had a newer computer and couldn’t play it. The other DOS games I have played are IndyCar Racing, Oregon Trail, and a new one I have called SimAnt. All of these have worse graphics than Inca II.

SimAnt is another “game I am playing now”. Every summer, I get “ant fever”. I usually end up playing ant games on graph paper, but SimAnt has a thourough representation of ant life. I hope to make a game on Khan Academy about ants, incorporating many of the AI controlling abilities of SimAnt, but adding much more. Here’s a video of the game:

I have heard about Nolan’s intro… but I have never been able to find it. It is not in the downloads section, and all of the old links are dead.

Badlands is the name of the Act, but I think the mission is where you have to find help around the cluster. It is possible to manually fly to an L-point, so that may help. Other things to try are downloading the appropriate save from the saves section of the Independence War 2 downloads section (make sure to have a backup of your existing saves), and to reinstall the game (again, make sure you have a backup of existing saves, mods, and custom config files).

I remember when I first started playing Independence War 2, I had a ton of fun and viewed the game as a legend. That has changed since, and I have been trying to recreate that feeling. I think I have figured it out. I started the game on our XP in one of our sheds, in the summer, with a joystick. I have since moved the game to my laptop, and don’t use the joystick anymore. The volume is often low, so the soundtrack doesn’t influence the game as much. Well, it’s spring again, (I’ve been playing the game for almost a year, and I just beat Dante’s Inferno), and I hope to move my game back to the XP and have some real fun with the game again. One other thing that may influence my experience with the game is that at first, there were only about two ships that I could handle at a time, and now I can take on mega-transporters without much hassle.

Which mission is this? In the objectives screen, the game will tell you the name of the mission. This information will allow us to more thoroughly investigate the problem. Also, make sure your using autopilot approach, using other autopilots in LDS might possibly mess the game up, although I have not witnessed it.

If I get a 3D printer someday, I would like a model Dreadnaught. A friend of mine has a Firefly board game with model ships as playing pieces. I think it would be fun to build my own Independence War expansion pack.

I have played Independence War 2 on an XP and on my Windows 8 laptop. On my Windows 8, I run it in compatibility mode for XP service pack 3. The only problems I have is with some versions of Torn Stars, and with one of the files for Buda 5 X-mas pack.

I have one other space-sim beside Independence War. it is called INCA II, and was released in 1994. The prequel was released in 1992. It is a DOS game, so I run it with DOS-BOX. It is very interesting. You play as Incans flying spaceships. In the prequel, the Incans were fighting the Spanish, in spaceships.
