AdmiralZeratulParticipant
My grandmother got this game for me for my birthday. No, she’s not a pirate. 😛 At the time, I was around the same age as the young Cal Johnston, so the fact that it was Cal’s birthday at the start of the game was a lovely coincidence that made me identify with him that much more. I used to tear up every time I watched the opening cutscene.
I was also terrible at the game, unfortunately. I never managed to complete it. In fact, I never managed to even make it to act 1, back then. I did bring home a surprising amount of cargo though; I just went to space stations and asteroid colonies and waited until someone dropped their cargo, then I docked with the pod I wanted and brought it home.
When I finally got to the point in the game where I could just use Jafs, I still always carried one home myself. Now, I will especially make sure not to let Jafs handle the antimatter. His accidents have caused many, many deaths.

AdmiralZeratulParticipantI’ve heard some things about that game. Some people say that Star Citizen is too big to fail. Some say it’s a load of vaporware and call it “Far Citizen”.
The guy behind Star citizen has experience making a lot of really good games. That’s not necessarily a quality guarantee though. Apparently, the person who made Daikatana also made Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake.

They were planning an offline mode for it, but removed that feature late in the beta on the grounds that it took away from the ever-changing, evolving experience the players get since the universe would not be able to be updated. Part of the game’s appeal is that it has an ongoing story, influenced by the players’ combined actions or lack thereof and an almighty hand behind the main server. :p
That sounds very similar to EVE Online, except that the ships can be controlled manually.

AdmiralZeratulParticipantWhen I saw that I-War 2 was on Steam, I bought it immediately. Ever since I first played this game as a child, I’ve loved it. To see such a classic on my favorite digital game distribution platform was such a pleasant surprise! It also reminded me of this old site that I used to go to so often. I visited the site again, and it turns out that it has been given new life as well!
Simply put, words fail to describe my joy at all this.

AdmiralZeratulParticipantThe prison monitors may house additional technology, since they look huge even for 90s standards. Of course, it doesn’t seem to do much good when the guard is sleeping on the job. One wonders how the story would have gone if the guards knew what they were doing. 😆
I agree with you about the old, eerie atmosphere of the base. There’s just one problem with that though. Smith seems like the type to want all the latest hardware. It seems strange that he didn’t upgrade the old monitors too, considering he is able to attach the command section to an old tug.
Maybe Clay liked the look of the old monitors, or something.

AdmiralZeratulParticipant
I just checked – some of the gamesaves aren’t named correctly.
Make sure to put it in the save folder and rename it to “savegame0.sav” – it loaded for me then. I got a save file called “savegame06.sav” which didn’t work without renaming.
It worked! Holy smokes! Thank you!
I wonder if Az and Lori missed me.

AdmiralZeratulParticipant
Not exactly in the main directory, it goes into
C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Independence War 2 – Edge of Chaos/saves/
I probably should have specified, but I already tried that.
I guess there isn’t much hope of this method working. I recall there being a way to skip forward in the story using a setting in flux.ini. Do you know what it is?

AdmiralZeratulParticipant
Just put the .sav file into the “saves” folder inside the game.
If there is not saves folder, create one and put the file in there. :)
Thank you, Sir, and thank you very much for restoring one of my favorite sites on the web! I must say it looks much more… modern, for lack of a better word.
However, this did not work at first, for some reason. I used “verify integrity of game cache” within Steam, and it downloaded most of the game’s files again. It turns out that many of them were missing!
So, I try it again, and it still doesn’t work. Was it supposed to go in the main game directory?
