I am an American, but that doesn’t have much to do with being a Christian.
It does have a lot to do with the strictness in which you adhere to your belief. You may have noticed that in European countries, even in the deeply catholic ones like Spain and Italy, people are less… how can I put it without offending you… well, strict (although the word I was looking for goes more in the direction of “fanatic”) than Americans. Really, religion plays for you guys a much much bigger role in everyday life than in Europe.
At the same time, the US are the biggest producer of porn material *in the whole world*! Also, drug abuse as a whole (alcohol, prescription medicine, illegal drugs) is highest in the US. And of course the very fact that you have an extremely lax relationship towards violence while at the same time going absolutely ballistic when seeing private female parts in public (Nipplegate, anyone? ๐ ).
Chessking, I’m not trying to insult you, I just point out that Americans tend to have a very strict beliefs towards morals, beliefs that not many other cultures can share.

Ha! And *I* have an even older Logitech Wingman Extreme on my Dachboden that uses a gameport. Which modern computers don’t have. But some day I’ll build myself a nice i486 computer out of ancient spare parts (VESA Local Bus, anyone? ๐ ) to finally be able to play all the goodies without all this nonsense like DOSbox and Glide emulators.

7upManParticipantThank you. By the way, can you tell me again what kind of joystick setup you use? I wonder if my Thrustmaster Flightstick X (http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/tflight-stick-X) will be up for the job.

You’re an American, right?
After I play through the games mentioned above, I want to replay I-War 2, with Elite, Future Trader, Station Assault, Ifleet, the Babylon 5 station, Custom Jafs, and the retro ships pack (almost done). I also have to play Gold Rush, Torn Stars, and the Assembly.
Are all those mods available on this site in the download section?

Schmatzler, does the game feature Newtonian physics or not? I never really found any into about it.

7upManParticipantNah, don’t care for Stargate at all, none of the various shows. Too cheesy?
The same goes for Star Wars. Everyone is crazy about it, but while I have seen all the six movies, I just don’t get it. It’s like a child’s story, and I always wondered how grown-ups could get into it.
The same goes for Star Trek. I did enjoy the two new JJ Abrams ST movies immensely, though. They were the exact opposite of the last ST movies with the TNG crew, directed by Frakes. The Borg Queen, anyone? God that was so bad…
I just hope that new upcoming TV show The Expanse will be any good. The trailer on YouTube looks promising though not necessarily close to the books. But that doesn’t need to be a bad thing, as seen in Game of Thrones.

7upManParticipantPacific Rim. Yeah, really, sometimes I’m in the mood for some mindless sci-fi action flick with huge robots fighting monsters. ๐
Other than that, I love unknown high-quality classics like B5 and Firefly (liked Serenity too), but also newer shows like Almost Human and Eureka (non-space shows). And yes, BSG should go without saying. I don’t know anyone who *didn’t* like that show.

1. there is a bug where sometimes enemies don’t take damage from hits inflicted on them. I read that this is because of modern CPU’s or something.
Yes, it’s a timing issue that occurs because modern systems are way too fast for the (IIRC) 100 fps limit that’s needed for proper timing. Enforcing vsync should alleviate the problem.
2. I want to change the power destribution settings (the triangle in the engineering screen) but it is grayed out and I can’t move the courser inside the triangle.
Sorry, can’t help you with that. I never had any issues with that.
3. At work, I have a 1080 screen and the game launched full screen 16:9. But at home on my lower rez laptop (where I have the joystick) it launches smaller, in 4:3 with black bands.
You play at work?!? o.O
I plan on playing through I-war and the indie campaign and then starting on I-war 2. While all my friends are playing Elite now, I feel more compelled to play somethign with a good story to justify all the work. Stuff like Elite just ends up being a huge sandbox. I hope Star Citizen fleshes it all out the same way Iยดwar does!
I share exactly the same sentiments about Elite. I had cancelled my donation to Elite on Kickstarter back in the day because of how utterly bad and laze the campaign had started. To this day, I don’t regret it. E:D is NOT the game I was looking for.

7upManParticipantWell, obviously I cannot speak for The Expanse as a TV show (after all, filming started only last October), but speaking for the book series, I can only say that this is one of the very best sci-fi book series I’ve ever read. The people, the technology, the environments and the overall universe feels very much alive. There’s some very well written dialogue, too. If the TV show will be even half as good as the books, it will definitely be a must buy for me!
As for the 90’s with their wave of great sci-fi TV shows, yes, I miss that too. Of the contemporary TV shows I can only recommend “Defiance” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2189221/?ref_=nv_sr_1). It is way better than its IMDB rating of 7.0. The individual episodes all have a rating of 8.0 and upwards. Do have a look and tell me what you think.
P.S.: Schmatzler, you have a very good taste when it comes to TV shows, I must grant you that. ^^
