Trying to get some life back into this little edge of chaos. B)
While I really like I-War 2 so far, I can’t play it for days straight without going mental.
Which games are you playing besides I-War or after you finished it?
Currently I’m playing http://diaspora.hard-light.net/ very frequently. It’s free, it’s in the Battlestar universe, it has professional voice acting and a well-done soundtrack. Could be commercial, except that it isn’t. ๐
The only thing that frustrated me the first few hours are the billions of controls and the horrible default layout. But it’s worth it to learn them.

2. January 2015 at 22:44 #16881ChesskingParticipantI have been playing a game called Drome Racers, an old Lego racing game. I downloaded the soundtrack recently, and it is so good I just had to play the game again.

I play Freespace 1 and 2, Space Engine, Vega Strike, Space Empires IV, and Moon Tycoon. That’s just the space related games, and I’m sure I’ve missed a couple. The list will get a lot bigger this year.
Unrelated to space (mostly) I play Anno 2070, CNC3, all three Roller Coaster Tycoon games, RenegadeX, Age of Empires III, Combat Flight Simulator 3, Flight Simulator X (a lot!), various LEGO games for PC, IL-2, LOTR Battle for Middle-earth 1 and 2 and its expansion, Mech Commander 2, and Blazing Angels 1 and 2.
(Sound of panting)
These are the games that I play the most right now, and I may have missed several. Also, there are around thirty games I have that I do not play often. (Once every eight months, say.)
Despite this large amount of gaming, I still find time to work on several of my own game projects simultaneously, write two huge books, read around three huge books per week, work on school, eat, sleep eight hours, and still get bored for thirty whole seconds sometimes!
Sounds exhausting when I write it, and it is, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s nothing like having so much to do that you get a sense of achievement when you manage to work on more than thirty percent of the stuff each month. The only thing that upsets the terrifyingly tight schedule is when I purchase a new game and take a week to put it through its paces, wring it inside out, and hang it up to dry, then realize I-War2 gathered a little dust. (And that, as we all know, is always a disaster… ;)) Elite Dangerous is probably next, and if not, then Diaspora. Looks like an interesting game, schmatzler, and…
(Drum roll)
It’s free!!
Always nice.–IronDuke

Very little about the game is not known to me. Any questions you got, throw them at me. ๐3. January 2015 at 22:14 #16885adminKeymasterWow, that’s…impressive!
I’m not such a big gamer. Most of the time I do web-related stuff on my computer. And I’m a big TV series addict.
However, I do play some old classics regularly. I’m fairly good at “No One Lives Forever” Multiplayer and I’m also playing “Blood 2” sometimes.
One of my favorite games is TRON 2.0, where you play as a program inside of a computer – I can really identify with that geeky plot.
I played I-War 2 as a kid with a horrible joystick that even broke after some sounds. Recently I acquired a SideWinder and that got me back into the space simulators.
I just found Diaspora by accident when I searched for the TV show on Google. Some weeks ago I installed Freespace but when I saw that I had to edit a big bunch of INI files just to get widescreen, I didn’t want to play it anymore.
I’m also a casual racing gamer…SEGA All Stars Racing, Blur, Need for Speed, Split/Second…all the fun stuff. But not regularly.
I never played Roller Coaster Tycoon like you, but Zoo Tycoon is pretty awesome. They have raptors! ๐

4. January 2015 at 5:02 #16888ChesskingParticipantI have Mechcommander 2, and it is a great game. I actually got it in the same box as Edge of Chaos. I have several of the construction type games, including Roller Coaster Tycoon Gold Edition, Zoo Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon/Marine Mania/Dinosaur Digs, Railroad Tycoon 2 (demo version but still fun), and John Deere American Farmer. I also have several good Star Wars games. I alternate among each of these occasionally. You guys have a good taste!

4. January 2015 at 8:11 #16893trooperParticipantI started playing EVE in 2007. got frustrated and switched to STO when it came out. played that for about 4 years until I got so bored…lol
started pulling old games off the shelf and got Masters of Orion working with dosbox. got Birth of the Federation running again and played some Fallout 2.
I ended up back in EVE, where I’m playing atm. talking to a corp friend about old games lead me here….:)
I’m re-installing EoC and will see if I can get it working again too.4. January 2015 at 9:29 #16895cambragolParticipantI play Crusader Kings 2 a lot. Sometime Moebius, the Orb of Celestial Harmony. Other than that, I dabble in Fallout New Vegas, and Stalker, but mainly modding them. To be truthful I don’t really play any games, just muck about modding them. That’s how I play them.
Haven’t really seen a lot of games in recent years that interested me much. Particularly in the space sim genre. Everything seems to have gone a different direction than I-war did. It’s all part of the growth in gaming in general. Big titles have to market to the masses now, which dictates the limits of their potential.

13. January 2015 at 18:22 #169277upManParticipantWhile I myself play the F2P games Mechwarrior Online and World of Tanks a lot, I also have a huuuuge backlog of games that don’t get the attention they deserve. Currently I have Mass Effect 2 on my table, have finished NaissanceE together with my kids (they are watching my play the game) as well as some adventures (Deponia trilogy and The Book of Unwritten Tales). As soon as Mass Effect 2 is done, I’ll finish The Witcher 2 and start the Bioshock games.
At the same time, I like watching Let’s Plays on YouTube. I don’t see myself ever buying Tex Murphy: Tesla Effect, but it’s a lot of fun to watch others play.
By the way, my personal favorites are Nexus, Homeworld (the first game, although I like the controls of the second game a lot better) and Ground Control (again the first game, the second one just sucks in every regard except graphics). Oh, and Dungeon Keeper II is a big favorite of mine. I won’t even mention the I-War series, as that should be a given for anyone active on this site. ๐
23. January 2015 at 19:09 #16982danslbParticipantRecently beat System Shock 2 for the first time. I was recently playing Crusader Kings 2 as well. I plan on playing the Witcher 1 when I finish reading the books (half way through the last volume now). And of course, just picked up I-war 1 and hoping to finish that and continue with EoC.
23. January 2015 at 21:14 #16984ChesskingParticipantAdd to my list Farming Simulator 2013, Diaspora (although I may not keep it), and Independence War 1: Deluxe.

Why not? I’m really addicted to it now, that’s why I put EoC far away. The fights are very cinematic and the voiceover mission briefings…I feel like in an extended, interactive part of the TV show. ๐
The Force Feedback effects are quite good, too. You can even feel your ship shaking when a Cylon is flying at high-speed directly over your head – wohooo! ๐ :silly:
I’m also playing Cry of Fear at the moment – it’s available for free on Steam and one of the scaries games I’ve ever played – apart from System Shock II (Shodan just makes me shiver).

27. January 2015 at 8:09 #17011ChesskingParticipantThe problem is the language. As a Christian, the language used in the game doesn’t appeal to me. Independence war did pretty well, though.
After I play through the games mentioned above, I want to replay I-War 2, with Elite, Future Trader, Station Assault, Ifleet, the Babylon 5 station, Custom Jafs, and the retro ships pack (almost done). I also have to play Gold Rush, Torn Stars, and the Assembly.

You’re an American, right?

Are all those mods available on this site in the download section?
Diaspora
Schmatzler, does the game feature Newtonian physics or not? I never really found any into about it.

I think I have added everything except Torn Stars. I will add that based on your feedback – but since Google claims the official website may have been hacked, I won’t copy anything from there at the moment.

It doesn’t completely, but that is a good thing. From the official FAQ:
Are you going to be using Newtonian physics?
Nope. The show doesn’t so we won’t be either. The show uses a cross between Newtonian and “Aeroplanes in space” which we are trying to reproduce. Going to a fully Newtonian model would actually result in combat being less like the show. Given that we are aiming to be as close to the show as possible that’s simply not going to happen, no matter how many people tell us it would be cool.
You’ll still be able to do all the cool manoeuvres you see in the show though.

27. January 2015 at 19:09 #170247upManParticipantThank you. By the way, can you tell me again what kind of joystick setup you use? I wonder if my Thrustmaster Flightstick X (http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/tflight-stick-X) will be up for the job.
