    Hello,

i’m the same BarFly which started that Thread about getting the Joyhat (Coolie) to strafe instead of switching hud.
    https://i-war2.com/forum/technical/3253-change-strafing-to-coolie-hat
now i have the Problem that after changing my Computer to a Ryzen 3700X, AMD 5700XT, SSD, Samsung 32″ WQHD Curved monitor and a new Thrustmaster T.16000 plus TWSC Throttle + Recaro Seat ;-)) IWar EoC neither from Steam nor from GoG is working as it was before i.e. when i started the mentioned thread.
Both -Steam AND Gog behave similar
Funny thing – IWar 1 seems to work as expected
    Ok:
Starting IWar EoC – > the movies are all fine, but then when it switches to the game menu, i just see ‘Instant Action’ and ‘Credits’ . There is no mouse pointer to see. Playing around with ‘ESC’ key, ‘Tab’ and the Arrow keys i see’ oad game’ for a short moment or some empty boxes.
I managed to start a new Game, the Joystick is working, the throttle not, but there is no Hud to see, no chance to switch, for example, to the contact list.
    I also tried different screen resolutions down to 800 x 600 πŸ™‚
Does anyone has an idea how to solve that problem? I’m out of ideas and my knowledge about the Game is not really deep.

This sounds like the old no CD or DVD drive problem. You need a CD or DVD drive for single player to work; doesn’t have to be real, it can be an emulated one, many free options available, just search online.

    Hello,

thanks for the advice, but that is not the solution.
I have a USB Bluray player connected and a virtual DVD Rom.

Maybe this files will help for somebody who has an idea:

My bad, I think I got mixed up with Tron 2.0 which I also recently replayed now I’m thinking that one had the drive problem.

Sorry could not be of more help.

The only other thing that comes to mind is updating direct X? Win 10 doesn’t come with dx9 as standard does it? you might need to install DX9 (which supports DX6 to 9 actually because I war 2 uses DX7 or 8 right. Although I guess you could get an error message if the right DX was not present.

    Hello,

it looks like you are not quite wrong.
I did some more research and found that, from @ Schmatzler at the Steam forums:

The game only needs to see a D: drive to show up the SinglePlayer option. Mount any ISO file you can find and you’re done.

Does it really need a optical drive at ‘D’? my Bluray player is ‘H’ and my virtual optical drive is at ‘I’
‘D’ is a SSD drive with 1TB. I have my Steam and my Gog and my Uplay Games at that. And when i played that game 3 years ago it run smooth. It was also Win10 64bit and it was also running with drive ‘D’, then as a HDD.
I will test my old monitor with 1920×1080 just HD and also my Joystick i used.

No, I use a virtual drive and it’s at ‘N’ (I have many drives on my machine, don’t ask long story), so it should be ok. If you have a virtual drive at ‘I’ it should be ok, in fact I just checked I don’t even have anything mounted and it’s working fine. But I do have win 7, this could be a different win 10 issue. Also, I know you said you have both versions but mine is the steam version for reference.

    Hello,

i guess i got it, at least i made a bid step forward.
i just downloaded the dgVoodoo Wrapper, unpacked and configured it (after reading the docs of course) and copied all the DLLs of the 3DFX and the MS X86 folders, to the Independence WarBinRelease folder. The dgVoodoo config file is stored at independence War folder.
The next thing got to do is adjust the Joystick:
    1. See the mentioned thread about configuring the joyhat switch
    2. At the joystick is one key not working which i need to navigate through the ‘Contact list’
    3. Rolling the ship is inverse, any other axes are perfect.
I would appreciate it if somebody out there can give me some help at this point.

    Hello,

now i tried my Thrustmaster T.16000M Joystick + the TWCS Throttle.
When i tried at the menu ‘load new game’ it quit back to the desktop. When i removed the Throttle from the system the game started up.
I guess i need a lot of help with the default.ini

    Hello,

i thought about the reason why the game did start with my old computer, which had the same Win10 Pro… but the graphics device was a Radeon HD 7950 which is ‘only’ DirectX 11 compatible.
and now i have a Radeon 5700XT which is DirectX12! I bet thats the problem!
This is a picture how the menu looked after starting up the game:

    Hi,

it may be a problem with the directx version used to run the game. But I’m not sure and can’t guarantee the following possible solution to work.
But it may be worth a try πŸ™‚

First try to find out if you really have DirectX9 installed on your Computer. Follow the steps of the following
Question&Answer page of Microsoft to determine wether you have DirectX9 installed or not and to install
    DirectX9 if missing.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/games_windows_10/directx-9-on-windows-10/7b7cec82-4a6d-4bb8-b7a5-3889aae764c1

If it still does not run correctly you can force the application to use a specific DirectX version.

    As a source:
    https://steamcommunity.com/groups/TheUsefulWindowsGroup/discussions/0/2741975115082003449/

I have added a screenshot to make it a bit easier. Follow the color in the following order:
    1. Pink (Add the application (EdgeOfChaos.exe and IW2EoCGS.exe) to the list – I also suggest to add the loader.exe because I have no idea which one is the source of the problem (../bin/release/loader.exe))
    2. Yellow (Set Feature level limit to 9_3)
    3. Green (Disable Feature Level Upgrade)

I hope this helps you. Feel free to ask for help if you need any πŸ™‚

    Kind Regards

I don’t really have a solution for that, but all I can say is that it might be AMD specific.
On my GTX1650 the game works fine and the card is also a DX12 card.

The game uses DirectX7 for rendering (DX8 renderer was never released to the public).
It might be tweaked with dxwnd or something similar to make it work with modern GPU’s – but one can easily spend hours trying out all of the settings in there. :/

    Hello,

    @schmatzler & @ITEDVO
    Thanks
It works after i used the DLLs which come with dgVoodoo
Maybe it is really an AMD specific problem, i just thought about DX12, because my former computer had also an AMD, a HD7950 which was DX11.
Anyways, a different problem turned up, when i accelerate with the throttle of the TM HotasX i won’t get beyond 500m/s. With the ‘A’ key the acceleration goes well beyond that limit.
    Is there a solution?

@BarFly Regarding your question about the throttle not going past 500m/s, it is the same way with my joystick… and for good reason. The throttle basically sets a target speed for your ship. You can basically go infinitely fast by holding the “A” key. Of course the throttle cannot be pushed infinitely forward, so that doesn’t work.

Two things that would be nice:
If you could change the throttle range say, to 2000m/s max, or even move the minimum down to the negatives. I am not sure if this is possible by any means other than EXE hacking.

It would also be nice if you could change the throttle to set a target acceleration, rather than speed. So all the way forward would be the fastest acceleration, and all the way back would be no change in speed. Of course this would make it hard to follow a constant speed, and especially hard to come to a stop. (Flight Assist would probably have to be forced off…). This is probably impossible to do with the current game.

You actually can do this! Just bind your throttle axis to the [icPlayerPilot.LateralZ] keybind in your controls config file. πŸ™‚
I did that but with my left stick’s twist axis, but I have previously done it with the actual throttle-lever on joysticks before. Give it a shot!
