Are you getting the I-War itch IronDuke? Summer is coming, and summer reminds me of I-War 2. I will probably find myself in an intense Instant Action match pretty soon.
Yeah, kinda…
Before I fire the game up for another playthrough, I’m going to make a quick mod (should only take an hour or two) that cranks up the AI. Ever wonder why they only fly at 200 instead of 250 in speed limits? Or 800 when the INI file shows their max at 1000?
That’s because the AI has a difficulty setting. When turned down, it decreases reaction speed, turns down the ship performance numbers, and locks out a few of the fancier maneuvers. By default for all ships, it’s at 8 of 10.
So I’m going to make a mod that simply sets the AI of all ships to 10. ๐ฟ Seriously, the difference is quite noticeable. When I do that, I’ll upload it here so you guys can have it too. B) Might not be for a few weeks though, till the “itch” gets too much to bear. :silly:–IronDuke

Very little about the game is not known to me. Any questions you got, throw them at me. ๐28. March 2016 at 5:11 #17636ChesskingParticipantSo… The ability to change the difficulty was added into the game but never used? When you finish the mod, I will never uninstall it! How am I supposed to train to be a professional storm petrel pilot when my enemies are fighting at less than their best? I have been able to defeat a Nova class cruiser in a storm petrel, and can pirate megatransporters with it, but that could change.

28. March 2016 at 5:13 #17638adminKeymasterThe difficulty can be changed with a commandline option for the multiplayer server (-ais).
I guess they never intended that to be available in the Singleplayer mode.
To be honest, the game is already hard as f*ck by default ๐
Space. The final frontier.
28. March 2016 at 20:20 #17642IronDukeParticipantIt wasn’t intended for players to change; it was a way of making some ships clearly better piloted than others. For multiplayer, they did put in an option to set the bot difficulty, but in single-player, it’s only accessible through code.
Also, Chessking, I have been able to pull off similarly ridiculous feats in the Storm Petrel. ๐ It’s just too easy for me, with my thousands of hours in the game, to kill anything. Although, I’m sure my habit of using 2 joysticks to freely control all 6 DOF has something to do with that… B)

I have gotten pretty good with the keyboard controls, and it really doesn’t limit my abilities. But it is definitely more fun with a joystick.

30. March 2016 at 20:33 #17648ChesskingParticipantHey IronDuke, what do you bring when you go pirating in the Storm Petrel? I bring a cutting beam and two quad lights.

Storm Petrel
31. March 2016 at 1:00 #17650IronDukeParticipantOh, I just use it in Instant Action, so the twin quad-lights. For the story, if I have the Corvette, I use that exclusively. The firepower and survivability are unmatched, while still having good maneuverability.
Six Neutron PBCs for the win! ๐ฟ
That and I rarely use the free-form mod that lets you keep playing after the story has ended, so I never have the Storm Petrel available for piracy. I really should do that though, just for kicks.–IronDuke

March 2016 at 9:13 #17651ChesskingParticipantYes, pirating a megafreighter that has eight heavy corvette escorts really proves the storm petrel’s capabilities. The hardest thing is getting the freighter to drop its pods without getting slammed by half a dozen gattling cannons and blown out of the galaxy. That’s what the cutting beam is for. It also comes in handy later, if you get a good safe bead on one of the escorts.

12. April 2016 at 1:50 #17707ChesskingParticipantI just had a thought about the two seats in Momaw’s version. Lucretia’s Storm Petrel has the same cockpit as the command section (because the makers were to lazy to make a second cockpit and the functionality required to switch between them, I guess). This cockpit only has one seat. Would two seats fit in the normal Storm Petrel?

12. April 2016 at 2:23 #17711IronDukeParticipantYes. The Storm Petrel looks small because of the low poly count and low-res textures, but if you open the model in a 3d modelling program and stick some chairs in, they fit fine.
The Encyclopedia says that the Storm Petrel’s length is 35 meters. The wingspan of a Boeing 737 is 34.7 meters, if I did the math right.–IronDuke

Next time I have EOC running, I will try using Beuty Shots to put a comsec and Lucretia’s Storm Petrel side by side. I thought the two were about the same size, based largely on the same cockpit model.
