One question about trading in the game

I kept reading reviews about how you can’t really buy or trade at the many stations you find in the game, and have to constantly go back to your main base in order to do anything. Has this been fixed, and if it hasn’t, doesn’t it ruin the gameplay? I like Privateer series where you could do a lot of things at each of the planets and stations.
