I recently got a new computer and reinstalled I-War 2 on it. However, it is impossible to play, since every time I try to load anything (be it a new game, a save, or instant action) I get a CTD with the message “Loader.exe has stopped working.” Anyone have an idea on how to fix this? My specs are:
Model: Asus GL552VW
RAM: 16 GB
Processor: Intel i7-6700HQ
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M
Operating System: Windows 1029. January 2016 at 3:37 #17583adminKeymasterCan be a hundred reasons. First make sure you have the latest graphics drivers.
If you have there is a flux.log file in the game folder. Post the contents here, maybe we can see what’s going wrong.

Well, the game tries to use the integrated GPU of your processor:
Intel(R) HD Graphics 530
I-War 2 and Intel graphics can be a bit messy. Maybe you can disable the Intel GPU in the device manager of Windows.
Or if you’re lucky you can set the preferred graphics card in the NVIDIA settings:

I load up the main menu fine, and all the movies before that play correctly. It’s when I try to actually play that I encounter a problem. When I try to, for instance, enter Instant Action, I’ll get the loading screen, and the bar will quickly fill up maybe 5% before I get the error message.
29. January 2016 at 4:13 #17593adminKeymasterDoes the flux.log tell you it’s using the NVidia driver after my posted solutions?
Because if it still crashes with the Nvidia card, it’s not a GPU problem. I-War 2 really doesn’t like Intel.
Other things I can think about:
– an Antivirus blocks the game files
– the DEP of Windows blocks itTry disabling your antivirus (or putting the I-War folder into its exception list) and disabling the DEP.
I never really tested I-War 2 on Windows 10, only Win8. Maybe others did and will join us here soon π

29. January 2016 at 4:32 #17595ChesskingParticipantI remember getting the loader.exe error. I think it was when I was trying to run some mod, but I can’t remember all of the details right now.
Or maybe it was fixed by running in compatibility mode?
Sorry, I don’t have Windows 10 either.

29. January 2016 at 5:07 #17597osterizer8ParticipantI’m…rather embarrassed that I forgot to try that. Lo and behold, when I put it in compatibility mode (Win XP SP2 for future reference) it works just fine!
I guess it’s something to do with Win 10 that loader.exe doesn’t like.
Schmatzler, I ran I-War on my previous PC (which also had Win 10) just fine. I guess I just forgot to put it in comp. mode this time. It looks like it just needs compatibility mode turned on, and then it pretty much works fine. Thanks for all your help, guys!
29. January 2016 at 5:13 #17598adminKeymasterGood to know. π I’ll put that into the Tech FAQ.

31. January 2016 at 8:48 #17603IronDukeParticipantI know this problem, and can confirm that it’s what happens without compatibility mode in windows 10 AND sometimes 7.
Glad you figured it out. π (Literally only days before I would have seen and helped.:()–IronDuke

Very little about the game is not known to me. Any questions you got, throw them at me. π28. December 2021 at 4:42 #19205Firefrost 7ParticipantLower your display resolution in the game through the Options menu. I found I had to run 1280×800 to get it to load new games properly.
