I just install it back, 2 months ago, and it’s still ROCKS !
As hard as I remember, SO enjoyable :woohoo: .
I need to re-train, but FUN with difficult things to do !
Hope you give this game the time it needs, It’s worth it and you won’t regret it.
Kick some ASS up there !Aladin
Ahead full ! Pas de quartiers !!!
21. December 2014 at 20:06 #16834jetskiParticipantHi,
I Still play Independence War 2, and thanks to COG, managed to resurrect I-War 1 on Windows 7. I still think I-War 1 had the best UI. The I-War 2 universal cockpit was not nearly as immersive. BUT for me, the I-war 1 game is marred by the inability to map joystick axes. I have a nice set-up with a TM HOTAS Cougar and Saitek pedals,(I am into flight Sims) but I can only use 1 controller so getting rudder pedals is a problem. I haven’t tried Torn Stars, as I haven’t completed I-War 2 (not enough time, too many flight sims).
21. December 2014 at 20:07 #16836jetskiParticipantPS nothing yet has come close to the sim flight mechanics. the ability to have both assisted and unassisted flight modes with sim moments of inertia, mass, etc is awesome.
23. December 2014 at 3:42 #16846ChesskingParticipantYes! I started playing the game early this year I think. I am an upcoming architectural engineer and computer programmer, and am starting a 2-d version of the Independence War games on Khan Academy. Here is what I have so far. Comsec Ad Thank you so much for saving the site. Also, my copy of I-war 2 works perfectly so far on my Windows 8.

23. December 2014 at 11:34 #16852adminKeymasterI think your project is a cool idea, although you may get legal complications with it.
I believe the name “I-War” is protected and you also used at least one asset from the original game for Hoffers Wake. 😉
Nevertheless, I wish you good luck with it.
I’m very excited by the game! I just finished the time-critical mission where all the gunstars shut down from time to time and I have to disable them.
Afterwards, they all get destroyed – what the hell? So why did I even get them in the first place? 😀 This game is more unforgiving than Dark Souls! 😀
And then I thought I will get a super-hardcore mission…no. I have to paint a ship. 😀 Great.

I wrote a PCsci-fi game fanzine some years ago and did a special issue
on UK games and particle systems
Working on space advanced concpets has becomemy job. I-War 2 has always

I-war again and again and again and again ! !
I-WAR …. still & again
26. December 2014 at 7:05 #16859Firefrost 7ParticipantI played EOC a number of year ago and am still impressed with the gameplay and graphics and physics. As soon as I upgrade my laptop, it gets installed again!
29. December 2014 at 8:23 #16862cambragolParticipantI still play!
Though, I only play various iterations of Unstable Space. I haven’t played the original vanilla game since I started modding it a decade ago.
I actually play on OSX, using a wrapper. It works better than on windows (?!). I have a big monitor (30inch) and run it at 2560×1600 and it still looks great!

30. December 2014 at 1:30 #16866ChesskingParticipantWritten in response to Schmatzler’s previous post:
About these legal complications: I will keep the term I-War out of my titles and keep screenshots out of the final game. I plan to use screenshots to create a gallery so that people who use my program will know what the actual game looks like. I will give credit to Infogrames and Particle systems, and have links to this site. All I want from the program is to increase awareness of Independence War 2 and to develop and prove my own programming abilities. Does this sound good?
P.S. Good luck on your game.

2. January 2015 at 11:23 #16874SarxisParticipantI still play it. Still haven’t beaten it completely since it’s release in 2001 either!
I’ve had several mods for the game, and just can’t let it go. The story, the systems, the ships: it’s still so good just to go flying around.
I love playing the Firefly soundtrack in the background while I play 😛
2. January 2015 at 17:46 #16876adminKeymasterA good choice – Firefly is awesome! 🙂
A happy new year to you all! Now we have 2015 and I’m still playing. Although flying to the mission points really takes a while, even with the Autopilot. I’m playing the game in small doses, that works best for me.

4. January 2015 at 6:50 #16890trooperParticipantI was talking to a corp friend in EVE about old games and I told him about IWAR2. we searched and found this site. I was surprised anyone was still playing.
told my friend about the great storyline and the fun I had. I created an account here and plan to install the game and see if it will work.
if I get it to work again, I might have to go out and get a joy stick too……….lol
thx for the effort to bring back one of the great games…..4. January 2015 at 21:47 #16899MidgardsormrParticipantAs I recall, it took a little fiddling, but I did get it to run in Vista. I run it in compatibility mode for XP Service Pack 2.
If you don’t know how to do that, once it’s installed, right-click on the executable or the icon you use to launch it and choose “Properties.” There should be a tab in the properties window called “Compatibility.”
I haven’t tried it in any OS more recent than Vista.

I remebered playing I-was when it came out but never really getting into it. I got the GOG versions (both I-war 1+2) ags ago and had forgotten about it. I started playing through the I-war 1 campaign last week and the next mission I´m up against is Morgan. Such a great and overlooked game. A few odd things I ´ve noticed:1. there is a bug where sometimes enemies don’t take damage from hits inflicted on them. I read that this is because of modern CPU’s or something.
2. I want to change the power destribution settings (the triangle in the engineering screen) but it is grayed out and I can’t move the courser inside the triangle.
3. At work, I have a 1080 screen and the game launched full screen 16:9. But at home on my lower rez laptop (where I have the joystick) it launches smaller, in 4:3 with black bands.
I plan on playing through I-war and the indie campaign and then starting on I-war 2. While all my friends are playing Elite now, I feel more compelled to play somethign with a good story to justify all the work. Stuff like Elite just ends up being a huge sandbox. I hope Star Citizen fleshes it all out the same way I´war does!

Enforcing vsync should alleviate the problem.

Sorry, can’t help you with that. I never had any issues with that.

You play at work?!? o.O

I share exactly the same sentiments about Elite. I had cancelled my donation to Elite on Kickstarter back in the day because of how utterly bad and laze the campaign had started. To this day, I don’t regret it. E:D is NOT the game I was looking for.
