Ok, here’s something weird that actually caused me to reinstall EoC. I never had the DirectX 8 options available on the Options Screen, despite having it. So I set the things like Anti-Aliased HUD stalks and whatnot through the flux.ini. Now the flux.ini shows that it recognizes that I do have DX 8, it just wouldn’t give me the options for it when setting the video. I have set the entry “use_directx8” to 1 in the past, but it never had any effect that I noticed. (I never went back to the Options Screen after setting it, so it’s possible the options for DX 8 were there.) So I left it at 0. Recently, I set it to 1 again. And EoC just wouldn’t start. Even after setting the “use_directx8” back to 0. So I unistalled, removed all remaining registry keys and reinstalled. After the reinstall, I went to set the video options and, what do you know, it gave me the option to use DX 8. So I checked yes. And EoC just wouldn’t start. The flux.log shows it can’t initiate the Direct3D Device. So, I set the “use_directx8” back to 0, and now it works fine. Even though I still use the DX 8 options through flux.ini (and they do work).
I’ve got DX 9 installed with an nVidia GeForce 2 GTS card. Can anyone tell me why it won’t accept the use of DX 8 through the game, but will accept the use of the DX 8 options?

23. August 2015 at 1:23 #17160adminKeymasterShameless push for interested guys – here’s an official statement from one of the devs regarding the DX8 patch.
If you google around, it turns out that GOG also received the patch, but they didn’t include it for reasons unknown. Shame 🙁

24. August 2015 at 13:29 #171697upManParticipantI guess this was due to results of the internal testing. GOG always makes extra sure that the games run on the vast majority of the systems, so who knows what issues they ran into. However, it might be worth a try to contact them directly. Schmatzler, can you do that?

I will contact GOG and Atari. Don’t get your hopes up, though 😛

11. January 2016 at 16:42 #17538adminKeymasterI finally found the time to do this – I’ve contacted GOG about the DX8 patch and await a reply now. Here is my message:
To whom it may concern,
I’m writing to you on behalf of the Independence War community on i-war2.com.
One of the developers of the I-War games has stated in your forums, that a DirectX 8 patch for I-War 2 had been developed and finished, but it was never released.
He also wrote, that GOG has received a copy of this patch. I have two questions about that:
1. Why hasn’t this patch been included into GOG’s release of the game?
2. Would it be possible to receive a copy of this patch?Kind regards,
I hope we’ll get an answer. Of course, there’s still Atari we can nag about this. 🙂

Very little about the game is not known to me. Any questions you got, throw them at me. 🙂13. January 2016 at 13:13 #17546adminKeymasterAlright, it’s been two workdays and I didn’t receive an answer.
I used the press contact email, since I didn’t think standard tech support would help me here. I’ll send the mail again to tech support as the last resort.
If there’s no response, I’ll try to find an Atari contact.

13. January 2016 at 13:34 #175477upManParticipantMaybe it’s a good idea to nag them both at the same time. Also, I think it makes sense to nag them a few times in a row, hoping that eventually they’ll be so annoyed that they either put you on a blacklist or finally answer your damned question. ^^
13. January 2016 at 13:55 #17549adminKeymasterThe tech support requires a dxdiag report, I guess this will really just go to a callcenter agent somewhere who has no idea what I’m talking about 😀
But there’s also a “Other” section where I sent it to. I received an ticket number, so that’s at least some progress 😛
I won’t give up. As an ultra last resort I guess I could still reach Stephen Robertson. But of course he can’t give me the legal go I need.

13. January 2016 at 14:59 #175507upManParticipantNo, but maybe he can give you the patch or has information on who has it.
15. January 2016 at 14:10 #17553adminKeymasterMmh I think I fucked up here.
3 days ago my personal wordpress blog was attacked, because…Wordpress. Since then I am on some major e-mail blacklists, because…spam.
So if GOG answered me, it may have never reached my mailbox 😛 SHIT.
I’ll just wait a little until I’m off of the blacklists and do all this over again. -.-

18. January 2016 at 19:59 #17561adminKeymasterI’m off the spam lists, sent all of it again! Fingers crossed!

21. January 2016 at 3:59 #17568adminKeymasterJust to give you an update: On Monday I received a message from GOG:
Hello, just to make things faster, could you point me to that post that states the patch was sent to us? It will make investigating and searching faster, as all I am seeing is that the patch is already about 10 years old and might not work on new systems, but no files, I probably missed something.
Regards,
Natalia
GOG.com SupportSince then, nothing. I’m beginning to think that they don’t have the patch anymore.
So the next step will be asking Stephen Robertson for a copy 😛
Edit: Sent a mail to Stephen.
Hi Stephen,
first of all, let me thank you for working on such an amazing game like Independence War 2. It made my childhood so much better and I still play it nowadays from time to time.
Last year we relaunched our community on i-war2.com and the games got a little more attention due to the Steam release. Since then, we’re going pretty strong. People are still sending in content for the games to this day.
We discovered some posts from you in our old forums and on GOG stating that a DirectX8 patch was finished, but never released and that you had actually send this patch to GOG.
I made contact with GOG, but they basically replied that they never received any patch. They even asked me where I got this information from.
So I kindly like to ask if you can get me a copy of this patch? I’m fully aware that I’m not allowed to release it unless Atari gives the go for it. It’s just very difficult to nag Atari about letting us release a patch we don’t even have in the first place. 😉
I hope your answer will be positive, so our I-War fans can maybe get a little polish for EoC after all of these years. However, I fully understand if it’s not.
Regards,
-Danny
