You probably patched the game before. There is a key in the registry where the version information is stored:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREParticle SystemsEdge of ChaosSettings]
The key is “Version”. I don’t know what number it needs to be set to, though.If I find the time, I can install my old F12 CD version.

In my registy(upgradet win7 to win10) the key is at the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWOW6432NodeParticle SystemsEdge of ChaosSettings
key: “Version”
replace value “e” to “a”🙂
Whew, sixteen years… I don’t even know if Particle Systems had been bought out yet at the time.
