One thing I’m sure many players will be missing is, of course, Lucretia’s Base. That central base really adds a lot of “glue” to the whole EOC plot… It was also damned handy :).
Thing is, one of the biggest flaws I currently see in Torn Stars is lack of GOALS, beyond just getting mega-rich and/or killing hordes of ships. And by goals, I mean interim and long-term. Acquiring your own base of operations surely would be a satisfyin’ step along your path, don’t you think? After all, wouldn’t many of the factions and/or subfactions have started in just this way..?
Some points I think in this idea’s favor:
– Base framework (and the “base mover”) already exist in EOC. While the “biobomber” image itself may or may not be hard to change – I have no real idea – hell, if it works, who cares ^^, ?
– Gives the player motivation to make the megabucks, beyond ship equipment and/or wingmen.
– Adds the concept of “bidding” a mission. In other words, ships in dock at the base wouldn’t need maintenance/fuel, so you’d have an incentive to make runs with the smallest escort safety margin possible to maximize profit. Caravanserai have had this dilemma for millenia ;).
– Gives the accomplished player a central place to store containers that doesn’t use up sim space!
– How ELSE are you going to store enough product to fill a PC/wingman megafreighter?! [}:)] Assuming they’re in the next addon or so, as I’ve seen rumored.
I think that the trading system in the EOC base would likely have to be greatly changed/disabled, so it doesn’t completely screw with the economy, but the manufacturing aspect also greatly interests me. I’d charge a LOT more, however, for blueprints than EoC does!
