The elderly Bastille class destroyer is still a formidable ship, even though the basic design has remained essentially unchanged since its first inception. Port and starboard under-wing mounted dual gatling cannons, mounted on 360 degree turrets allow engagement of targets from almost any angle, while a front mounted dual gatling cannon helps with frontal assaults. The shield systems are extremely strong, especially over the prow. Uniquely the Bastile class destroyer can bring all three primary weapons to bear on a single target, something few vessels can survive for long. In fact the the Bastille class has been so successful that NSO Laplace have taken many of the design elements and incorporated them into the Guillotine class heavy destroyer. Variants include the Interdictor sub-class, which carries disruptor missiles in addition to the normal missile complement, and the Spearhead sub-class, which replaces the forward cannon with a cutting beam for station and capital ship assaults.

Based on a secret prototype developed during the Independence War, the Guillotine class heavy destroyer is a superior vessel in every sense. Four wing-mounted turreted dual gatling cannon provide unsurpassed fire-arcs, and an uprated forward dual gatling cannon provides excellent head-on firepower. Shields, engines, weapons and CPU have all been upgraded, and the Guillotine class requires far fewer crew than its predecessor. Several navies have taken delivery of the latest versions if the Guillotine, and it is gradually replacing the Bastille class.
