Multiplayer

I hope this is the right place to put this. I can’t seem to get the multiplayer to work. Do you have to be connected to the Internet to use multiplayer? Every time I try to host a game, it freezes. I’ve only had it work once, and I’m not sure whether I was connected to the Internet or not. What’s wrong?
